The minimum class length is 6+ hours (realistically, it will be at least 7 or 8).
Registration is on a first come, first served basis and seating is limited. The cost is $50 if paid in advance or $65 at the door. At the end of the class, you will be eligible to take an NRA discipline (like rifle, pistol, shotgun, and home firearm safety, etc) to complete your instructor training. Discipline classes are taught throughout the year.
You should bring your lunch and a firearm related presentation aid that you can use during your presentations. However, you should not bring any firearms or ammunition to the class. Please contact me for more information.
Instructor candidates must meet these requirements:
1. The candidate must be both a certified NRA pistol and Personal Protection in the Home instructor.
2. The candidate must have successfully completed the 14+ hour PPOTH class.
3. The candidate must complete the pre-course assessment with an adequate score.
4. The candidate must complete the pre-course questionnaire.
5. Scores on the pre-test (the PPOTH student exam) must be 90% or higher.
6. The candidate must demonstraet basic safe handling and unloading procedures for the pistol specified.
7. The candidate must safely demonstrate basic pistol shooting positions and shooting fundamentals with all shots landing on the target.
8. The instructor candidate must have taken the 6+ hour BIT class within the last year or pass the current Trainer's examination with a score of at least 90%.
9. The candidate must successfully complete the 16+ hour PPOTH instructor candidate class.
The pre-course assessment includes:
A. Passing the PPITH student exam with a minimum score of 88%.
B. Stating and demonstrating the NRA 3 fundamental rules of gun handling.
C. Demonstrating the proper loading, cocking, uncocking, and unloading procedures for revolver and semi-auto pistols with training cartridges. One of the guns must be the one the candidate will use in the class.
D. Using the gun that will be used in class, demonstrate the ability to shoot two 5-shot groups that are nine inches or smaller in the middle of the target from a 2-handed standing position at a distance of 21 feet.
D1. Correctly demonstrate the dry-fire procedure.
D2. Live-fire exercise (1-round at a time, 5 times).
D3. Live-fire exercise (5-rounds at a time at the student's pace, 1 time).
Students should bring at least 200 rounds of quality FACTORY ammunition. No RELOADS or self made ammunition.

Candidates for pistol instructor ratings must perform as follows the pre-course assessment exercises:
1) Pre-test: 90% or higher
2) Unloading Procedures: The candidate must demonstrate basic safe handling and unloading procedures for the pistols specified.
Course Description: Develops NRA Instructor Candidates who possess the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to conduct the NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course.

You must pass the written examination with a score of 90% or greater to be certified as an instructor!
Students will receive the required NRA materials for new instructors.
Registration is on a first come, first served basis and seating is limited. The cost is $70 if paid in advance or $85 at the door. If you take this class and the BIT class together, the cost is $100 if paid in advance, and $120 if paid at the door.
